Fire safety is now the first question asked about commercial battery storage, by site owners, fire-safety officers, banks and insurers alike. With the LUNA2000-241, Huawei answers it with independent evidence rather than marketing claims. The cabinet has been tested and certified by TÜV Rheinland, the German inspection body, against the highest level of its energy storage safety classification. To date, no other manufacturer has announced this level for a C&I battery.
What is TÜV Rheinland’s Prime safety level?
TÜV Rheinland built a three-level safety classification for energy storage on top of existing standards, because market-entry standards alone no longer reflect real-world risks. Prime is the top level.

On 24 December 2024, Huawei Digital Power received the world’s first Prime certificate for its Smart String & Grid Forming storage platform. The LUNA2000-241-2S1 is the 2026 generation of this C&I cabinet and succeeds the LUNA2000-215. In July 2026, Huawei’s residential LUNA2000 S1 also reached Prime, which makes Huawei the first manufacturer certified at this level in both residential and C&I storage.
How was the LUNA2000-241 platform fire-tested?
In December 2025, Huawei’s C&I hybrid-cooling grid-forming storage system went through an extreme ignition test witnessed by TÜV Rheinland in a national fire safety laboratory. It was the industry’s first fire assessment under the new UL 9540A:2025 standard. The conditions were set to be the worst case by design:
- 60 cells were pushed into simultaneous thermal runaway by overcharging a battery pack.
- Every pack was charged to 100% state of charge.
- The cabinet doors were left open, as UL 9540A:2025 specifies, to feed the fire maximum oxygen.
- All active and passive fire suppression was switched off, so only the cabinet’s built-in design could contain the fire.

45.3 °C is far below the temperature at which a cell’s safety valve opens. In practice, a fire in one cabinet stays in that cabinet.
Five layers of protection built into the cabinet
- Thermal isolation between cells slows any runaway from spreading cell to cell.
- An all-metal pack enclosure withstands more than 1,500 °C and keeps its structure.
- Positive-pressure oxygen blocking with directional smoke exhaust keeps oxygen out of the pack and steers combustible gases away.
- Labyrinth fireproof seals on every sealing surface stop flames escaping.
- A reinforced, fire-resistant cabinet protects the asset and its surroundings.
Huawei’s datasheet adds a top explosion vent, active venting and pack-level aerosol fire suppression.

Why does this certification matter to installers, banks and insurers?

Does the FusionSolar monitoring platform cost anything?
No. Huawei’s FusionSolar app and its SmartPVMS web portal are free to use, with no licence or subscription per site. Installers get real-time monitoring of PV and storage, intelligent alarms, diagnostics, and remote commissioning and O&M tools. They can also open an account with limited rights for the site owner.
Some monitoring platforms on the market charge a yearly fee per site or per user for professional features. Over a 15-year project, a platform with no subscription lowers the total cost of ownership, and that saving can outweigh a small difference in hardware price.
